Introduction Robust-MT Marine Technology BV

Those who cannot divide cannot multiply! We at Robust-MT Marine Technology BV believe that success is a combination of factors. Knowledge is just one of these, but it is useless without facilities, resources, capacities, etc. It is for this reason that we will never be frenetic about sharing knowledge or providing a platform to someone else who deserves it or when there are useful knowledge to be shared.

Making a foundation

It was not without reason that the old engine stood on a solid foundation, where the propeller shaft protruded, solid polyester was connected to the rest of the hull and although the new skin appears sturdy, it still seems good to me to be able to withstand the forces that will soon be exerted by the new engine. on the hull to distribute over a larger surface area. I considered various options, such as making a set of hardwood trusses that distribute the forces, but ultimately decided to create a larger surface with cast resin (polyurethane).

The big advantage of polyurethane is that it is self-levelling, does not shrink and does not become extremely hot when curing.

I draw and calculate where I think I need reinforcement and discover that with 12 liters of polyurethane I can make a sufficiently strong foundation to transfer the torsional forces of the engine to the rest of the hull. I make a mold from cardboard so that I can stick a wooden partition to the hull as a partition with epoxy paste.

Time to start pouring the polyurethane. I read the product specifications and discovered to my horror that the product can only be used from 15 degrees... Outside it is about 10 degrees and it doesn't look like it will get warmer again soon in winter. Fortunately, there is still an electric heater doing nothing and armed with a heater and all, I mix the polyurethane with the hardener and fill the foundation. I heated the stove to a safe 16 degrees and sure enough, a few hours later everything had hardened exactly as I had hoped.

On to the next step, freshening up the old engine compartment and then installing the peripherals.
