Powerful, whisper-quiet electric pod motor for permanent installation under the hull. Available in 12 kW and 20 kW for boats up to 10 tons. Low-maintenance, emission-free, and equipped with hydrogeneration and NMEA 2000 support. Ideal for sailing yachts, catamarans, and electric refits.
The ePropulsion Pod Drive eSSA is an advanced electric pod motor designed for permanent installation under the hull of sailboats, catamarans, and other vessels up to approximately 10,000 kg displacement. Available in 12 kW and 20 kW versions, this motor offers silent, emission-free, and low-maintenance propulsion. Thanks to its gearless direct drive system, the motor delivers high torque with minimal vibration and virtually no noise, resulting in a comfortable cruising experience. The 12 kW version weighs 31 kg and is suitable for boats up to approximately 6,000 kg, while the 20 kW version weighs 53 kg and is suitable for boats up to approximately 10,000 kg.
A standout feature of the Pod Drive eSSA is its integrated hydrogeneration function , which recovers energy and charges the batteries while sailing. The motor is compatible with ePropulsion's 96V G-Series batteries, such as the G102-100 and G102-230, and easily integrates with NMEA 2000 networking for seamless communication with other onboard equipment. The motor itself is submersible water-cooled, while the driver unit is air-cooled, contributing to the system's efficiency and reliability.
The robust marine-grade aluminum housing ensures durability and corrosion resistance, even in harsh marine conditions. The motor's submerged installation eliminates the need for shaft or saildrive ducts, reducing the risk of leaks and simplifying installation. With its quiet operation, smart energy recovery, and robust construction, the ePropulsion Pod Drive eSSA offers an environmentally friendly and reliable solution for modern recreational boating.

Overheating protection: Yes
Emergency stop in case of screw blockage: Yes
Low-maintenance design: No transmission or fluid changes required
NMEA 2000 compatible: Yes – easy integration into on-board network
Fully electric drive: Emission-free and whisper-quiet
Inboard engines: |
These are engines installed in boats to replace, for example, an existing marine diesel engine or to propel a sloop with a built-in engine. Propulsion is provided, for example, by a propeller shaft or sail drive, and the engine is usually installed lengthwise. |
Outboard motors: |
These are motors that are mounted, for example, on the stern (transom) of the boat. These motors are therefore more flexible because they are easily accessible and removable. When the voltage is 24 volts or higher, we call it an outboard motor. |
Whispering motors: |
Whisper motors are the lighter version of outboard motors, operating at voltages below 24 volts. They are often powered by an external 12V battery. |
Pods: |
These engines are mounted underneath the boat . This has the major advantage that the engine takes up no space inside the boat and is also invisible from the outside. |
Water scooter: |
Our water scooter is an electric-powered swimming board. When used in reverse, it also doubles as a water cannon. This isn't just a fun toy for young children, but also a very useful aid for less mobile swimmers. |
SUP motor: |
Stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) is becoming increasingly popular, but it's also a strenuous sport. However, by equipping the SUP with an auxiliary motor, covering long distances becomes much easier. Be sure to read our review of the ePropulsion Vaquita SUP motor . |
Canoe or kayak motor: |
Just like for the SUP, we also supply support motors for kayaks and canoes. |
