The primary function of the MG Master HV 144-800V DC 300A Battery Management Controller is to prevent electrical abuse of the battery cells. With this in mind, the BMS monitors various parameters to detect potential battery failures early on. This is essential for ensuring the proper functioning of a lithium-ion battery system. MG's system philosophy is to build a system with a single master BMS (MG Master HV) that communicates with slave BMSs (lithium-ion battery modules). The slave BMSs are able to monitor battery cell parameters such as cell voltage, cell temperature, balance control, and humidity in the enclosure. All these parameters are sent to the MG Master HV via a separate CAN bus, which collects this data and monitors the individual parameters within various limits. If a parameter exceeds the limit, this is first communicated to the user (via the AUX CAN bus). If the exceeded limit persists, the MG Master HV has the ability to disconnect the batteries from the system by opening the main switches. HV Power Connection: The Amphenol PowerLok power connections allow for easy connection of a series of batteries to the Master HV. These connections are robust and feature an integrated HVIL (High Voltage Interlock Loop) to monitor the connection. The low contact resistance allows for continuous currents of up to 500 A. Monitoring and Control: Critical parameters are monitored by the Master HV, such as cell voltages and temperatures of each connected battery module. A selected series of limits defines the system boundaries. Different limits can be set for each of the monitored parameters. Firstly, a control limit controls chargers or loads. Secondly, a warning limit, and thirdly, a critical fault that opens the safety switches that interrupt the current path from the batteries to loads and chargers. In a well-integrated system, it should never be necessary to open the safety switches during normal operation.
