Description

Protect your Torqeedo motor with the right anode

Anodes are essential for protecting your electric outboard motor against electrolytic corrosion. When your motor comes into contact with water, electrochemical reactions occur between different metal parts. An anode acts as a "sacrificial disk": the corroding material attracts corrosion, protecting important engine components such as the propeller shaft, cooling tubes, and casing.

Aluminum or zinc: which suits your situation?

The choice between aluminum and zinc anodes depends on the type of water you're sailing in. Aluminum anodes are universally applicable and work excellently in both fresh and brackish water, making them the most versatile option. Zinc anodes are specifically designed for saltwater and offer optimal protection. For Torqeedo outboard motors primarily used in rivers, lakes, or coastal areas, both materials provide reliable protection.

Regular inspection extends the lifespan

Check your anode for wear at least every sailing season. When an anode is corroded by more than 50%, replacement is necessary to ensure continued protection. Installing a new anode is a minor maintenance step that prevents major repair costs and significantly extends the life of your Torqeedo.
