The advantage of the galvanic isolator is its limited weight, price, and size. However, the disadvantage is that a good ground connection is required. A second phenomenon is that electrolytic corrosion can occur not only through the ground connection, but also through the neutral line (if this is connected to ground at a consumer's onboard terminal through a suppression filter or similar). An alternative to the galvanic isolator is the isolating transformer, although it is more expensive.
