Victron Skylla-i 24/100 (1+1)
The aluminum housing is epoxy-powder-coated with a cover plate to protect against condensation and stainless steel mounting hardware to increase resistance to adverse environmental conditions: heat, moisture, and salt air. The printed circuit boards are protected with acrylic lacquer for optimal corrosion resistance. Temperature sensors ensure that the power components always operate within specified limits, automatically reducing the output current if necessary in extreme environmental conditions. In addition to a CAN bus (NMEA2000) interface, a rotary switch, DIP switches, and potentiometers are available to tailor the charging algorithm specifically to the batteries and their operating conditions. Please consult the manual for a complete overview of the options. Multiple chargers can be synchronized via the CAN bus interface. This is achieved by connecting the chargers to each other using RJ45 UTP cables. Please consult the manual for more information. The correct charge rate for a lead-acid battery: variable absorption time. When only shallow discharges occur, the absorption time is kept short to prevent overcharging. After a deep discharge, the absorption time is automatically increased to ensure the battery is fully recharged. Preventing damage due to excessive gassing: limited voltage rise. If, to shorten the charging time, a high charging current combined with a high absorption voltage is selected, the Skylla-i prevents damage due to excessive gassing by automatically limiting the voltage rise rate once the gassing voltage is reached. The Storage function is activated when the battery has not been discharged for 24 hours. In that case, the float voltage is reduced to 2.2 V/cell (26.4 V for a 24 V battery) to minimize gassing and corrosion of the positive plates. Once a week, the voltage is raised back to the absorption level to "refresh" the battery. This prevents electrolyte stratification and sulfation, a major cause of early battery failure. Each Skylla-i is equipped with a battery temperature sensor. When connected, the charging voltage automatically decreases as the battery temperature increases. This feature is particularly recommended for sealed lead-acid batteries and/or when significant battery temperature fluctuations are expected. To compensate for voltage loss due to cable resistance, the Skylla-i is equipped with a voltage sensing device so that the battery always receives the correct charging voltage. Simple on/off control of the charger can be achieved by connecting a relay or an open-collector optocoupler output from a Li-ION BMS to the charger's remote control port. Alternatively, full voltage and current control is possible by connecting to the galvanically isolated CAN bus port.
