Victron Smart BMS 12/200

Victron Smart BMS 12/200

The Victron Smart BMS 12/200 provides lithium alternator overload protection. The BMS connects to 12.8V Victron LiFePO4 (LFP) batteries. Up to five batteries can be connected in parallel. It can be used as a system on/off switch. Alternator and battery protection: The input current is electronically limited to approximately 90% of the fuse rating. A 100A fuse, for example, will therefore limit the input current to approximately 90A. Choosing the correct fuse will: a. Protect the LFP battery from excessive charging current (important for low-capacity LFP batteries). b. Protect the alternator from overloading a high-capacity LFP battery bank (most 12V alternators will overheat and fail if run at maximum output voltage for more than 5 minutes). Starter battery protection: This function is similar to that of a Cyrix battery combiner or Argo FET battery disconnect switch. Current can only flow to the LFP battery when the input voltage (= voltage on the starter battery) exceeds 13 V. Furthermore, current cannot flow back from the LFP battery to the starter battery, thus preventing possible damage to the LFP battery due to excessive discharging. Li-ion battery protection Excessive input current and current surges are regulated down to a safe level. The Smart BMS stops charging in case of cell overvoltage or overtemperature. It has three outputs, similar to the SmallBMS: > Load disconnect output voltage: The Load output is normally high and floats at imminent cell undervoltage (default 2.8 V/cell, adjustable on the battery between 2.6 V and 2.8 V per cell). Maximum current: 10 mA. The Load output can be used to control the external on/off of a Battery Protect, inverter, DC-DC converter or other loads. Pre-Alarm Output Voltage: The pre-alarm output can be used as a warning when the battery voltage is low and will switch off shortly before the load output disconnect is switched off due to cell undervoltage. The pre-alarm output can be used to drive a relay, LED, or buzzer. It can be configured as a continuous or intermittent signal. The pre-alarm output is normally floating and becomes high when there is imminent cell undervoltage (default 3.1 V/cell, adjustable to the battery between 2.85 V and 3.15 V per cell). Maximum current: 1 A (not short-circuit protected). The minimum delay between the pre-alarm and load disconnection is 30 seconds. Charge Disconnect Output Voltage: The Charge Disconnect output is normally high and becomes floating when there is imminent cell overvoltage or overtemperature. Maximum current: 10 mA. The Charge Disconnect output is not suitable for powering an inductive load such as a relay coil. The Charge disconnect output can be used to control: the external on/off of a charger, a Cyrix-Li Charge Relay, a Cyrix-Li-ct Battery Combiner. (Note: in some cases an interface cable will be required, please refer to the manual). Load/Charger output/input (SYSTEM+ power port) This power port can be used to charge or discharge the LFP battery (i.e. via a battery charger, inverter or inverter/charger) with a maximum continuous current of 200A in both directions. It can also be used as a load output to allow DC loads to be connected directly to this port. The port is short circuit protected with a peak discharge current of 400A. The Smart BMS will ensure that battery discharge will be stopped in case of impending cell undervoltage. The Smart BMS will enable charging through this port, but no charge algorithm can be applied internally. External On/Off Input The external on/off input controls alternator charging. When switched off, alternator charging is disabled while BMS functionality will remain active, allowing loads and chargers to continue operating regardless of the status of the external input. When “System On/Off Switch” is enabled via VictronConnect, BMS functionality will also be disabled. It consists of two terminals: External L and External H. An external on/off switch or relay can be connected between H and L. Alternatively, terminal H can be switched to battery plus or terminal L can be switched to battery minus. Ignition Protected No relays but MOSFET switches, therefore no sparks. Bluetooth Bluetooth can be configured.
