In 2018 we bought a boat (shipwreck). We stripped it completely down to the carcass and rebuilt it from there into what is now the Karemaniya. We are actually still working on this and during the process Nils and Yara told Remco that they actually want to continue doing this. Nils in particular said that this is what he wants to do with his life. And from that Robust-MT was born.
Our Karemaniya has 2 Epropulsion Pod 3.0 (kW) Evo motors, which are two motors that you mount under the boat with two batteries . These are two separate engines, both with their own controls and their own charger .
The drive cost about 12,000 euros when we bought it, but the problem was that you couldn't load both engines at the same time, so a whole system had to be installed in the Karemaniya (Remco is cleverly lazy, come up with an impossible system and make it as if you were a does a puzzle so that he only has to plug in a plug to charge the boat) that could completely power everything in one go. All together it costs about 30,000 euros.
Disadvantages of the pods are that you have to clean in the water in your swimming trunks for basic maintenance. But you can reach the pods just as easily as an inboard engine, so it's half a disadvantage. Furthermore, these pods always hang there, which means they provide a little more resistance than a motor that can be lifted out of the water.
The easiest distinction is that whisper motors often operate on 12 volts (with some exceptions) while electric motors operate on 24, 48, 96 or even 400 volts (again with some exceptions). Whisper motors are usually outboard motors on a thin shaft where the battery is often external. Relatively heavy lead-acid batteries are also often used here.
Our electric motors up to 1.7 kW have a compact lithium battery mounted on the engine, where the fuel tank used to be. This makes them much more similar to a traditional outboard motor than a whisper motor (anything above 1.7kWh can no longer be compared to a whisper motor). In addition, they deliver significantly more torque and the range is many times greater. An electric motor is a full-fledged alternative to a petrol outboard motor; a whisper motor is much more of an auxiliary motor.
