When we arrived at scouting, it was chilly, there was a strong wind and the test equipment turned out to consist of two heavy Lily chimneys. While we believe that an ePropulsion Spirit 1.0 Plus is the perfect tool for a Lelievlet, Scouting Tjarda may have made the right choice here with the Torqeedo Travel XP . A Lelieschouw weighs roughly 1300kg compared to 700kg for the Lelievlet.

We left for Kagerplassen and it immediately turned out that the Torqeedo Travel XP has more torque at the bottom and picks up speed faster. At 33% of the power, the ePropulsion already needed 100% to keep up with us. Once on the big water, the Torqeedo also turned out to be more efficient. Although not exactly tested under laboratory conditions, the Torqeedo at 500W seemed to sail as fast as the ePropulsion at 700W.

Conclusion

Does the Torqeedo Travel XP the ePropulsion Spirit 1.0 Plus from the Robust-MT throne?

No, not as far as we're concerned. As we wrote earlier, an ePropulsion Spirit 1.0 Plus more than sufficient for . The Torqeedo Travel XP will not make much difference in terms of speed. The Torqeedo Travel XP is also significantly more expensive than the ePropulsion Spirit 1.0 Plus . What do you get for that price difference? 600W extra power, GPS on board, a very nice color display, communication with the phone and possibly a better build quality. The question is whether these are the 'unique selling points' for Scouting use.

For use on a scouting Lelievlet, our advice remains the ePropulsion Spirit 1.0 Plus or a Torqeedo Travel . However, if towing is necessary or if there is a Lelieschouw instead of a Lelievlet, the choice is 100% clear after this test: Torqeedo Travel XP .

During the test some serious string pulling was also done. Not between the Travel and the Spirit, but the Travel is slowed down by a heavy (>10 hp) diesel engine. The Travel gave no kick, although the diesel eventually won.

Overall, there was something else worth mentioning. The ePropulsion Spirit 1.0 Plus is absolutely silent, but the Torqeedo Travel XP can be heard. Certainly not disturbing and still completely negligible compared to a combustion engine, but still very clearly present in a direct comparison.
