Victron Isolation Transformer 8000W 230V /32A Applications The heaviest model in the 230V series. Intended for large yachts, charter vessels, and workboats where the entire onboard electrical system, including air conditioning and heavy chargers, operates on shore, and where complete galvanic isolation is a strict requirement. Galvanic Isolation and Safety The transformer breaks all electrical continuity between shore power and the ship. The shore power connects to the primary side, the ship to the secondary. If all metal parts are connected to the secondary neutral, the RCD or circuit breaker on board will simply trip in the event of a fault, without the shore earth causing galvanic corrosion to the propeller, propeller shaft, and hull. Polarity alarms and a galvanic isolator are therefore unnecessary. Voltage Conversion The winding ratio of 1:1.05 raises the 230V input to a 240V output, thereby compensating for the voltage drop in the shore power supply, which is common in marinas. The device can be used in 50 Hz and 60 Hz installations; the frequency is not converted. Soft start and temperature protection The inrush current limiter keeps the shore circuit breaker switched on during startup. The transformer is forced-cooled; the fan speed increases with the temperature, and the device switches off in the event of overheating. Connection and grounding Input and output run via screw terminals (L, N, and PE) with a minimum cable cross-section of 6 mm² (AWG 10). An M6 bolt is located under the housing for the ground connection to the ship. For a correctly functioning RCD at the output, the secondary neutral is connected to ground using the supplied bridge wire (J5-J7). Safe when ship is ashore If the ship is in winter storage or ashore for maintenance, the ship's ground must be connected directly to the shore ground. A provision for this is included in the device (J9-J12); the bridge wire is supplied, as well as a mounting bracket and a grounding wire for the housing.
