Robust-MT Floating Parade 2024
June 21, 22, and 23, 2024, marked the 25th edition of the Varend Corso (Floating Parade) , and of course, Robust-MT Marine Technology was there again. It was a fantastic event, and we're proud to have been a part of it once again. Read our report here:
Preparations
Last year, we created a setup scouting lily boats ePropulsion Spirit 1.0 Plus with a corresponding solar panel . We used this setup again this year, of course.
We also had something truly special in store: Chris Seggelink of Scouting Nederland provided us with EcoVlet #1 , which was even presented to Queen Maxima . We were allowed to take this boat with us to the Corso, and it held up fantastically.
In addition, our own Robust-MT ZWS500 with the Corso as 'Mothership' of the Solar boats the Young Solar Challenge of ISW Hoogeland , Segbroek College and Haags Montessori Lyceum .
Robust-MT Floating Parade 2024 Day 1: The Anniversary Day
The day started beautifully, but just before the start, it started drizzling, which turned into cold and downpours by the time we got near De Lier. Turning around in De Lier wasn't exactly smooth, and the EcoVlet got a bag in its propeller, something we couldn't fix in the crowd. We towed this boat back out of De Lier with our Robust-MT ZWS500 .
In short, not the best start to the Floating Parade. However, it did get better. The trip after lunch towards Maassluis went much better, the festival in Maassluis was magnificent, and the return trip under the setting sun was unforgettable.
Robust-MT Floating Parade 2024 Day 2: The Delfland Day
Day three was a very long but beautiful day. The first stretch to Schipluiden went smoothly, although even sailing at Corso speed seems like quite a long way. However, that's where things went wrong for the first time. The bridge at Den Hoorn wouldn't open, and we were stuck in the middle of the water for 45 minutes in the blazing sun. "Still" is relative, because with the wind at our backs, this meant constant concentration and correction to avoid collisions.
Sailing through Delft was a delight, and the break was very welcome and impressive. As we were leaving Delft, things went wrong again. The Titanic rammed one of "our" solar boats, the ISW Hoogeland boat. We then towed that boat from Delft back to Honselersdijk. We were the very last to arrive, the Corso was almost finished, the dinner was cleared, and the drinks and presentation ceremony were in full swing. It didn't dampen the spirits; it was a fantastic party.
Floating Parade Westland , thank you!
