June 2023 was the scene of the 24th edition of the Varend Corso. As Robust-MT Marine Technology BV we simply had to participate in this. Not only is it a fantastic opportunity to network locally and increase visibility, it is also an opportunity that fits who we are and what we promote. So much fun on the water, local traditions, sustainability and innovation. We fit in perfectly with this.
For this edition we have converted two scouting lilies into solar boats. In both cases an ePropulsion Spirit 1.0 plus with extra battery in a beautiful bag set and an ePropulsion Spirit Solar Panel with charger .
To be able to mount the solar panel free from the boat, we custom-made two panels and attached them to the back of the rudder stock of the vlets. During the first test run, the attachment turned out to be particularly sturdy and yet as light as possible. It was also striking how beautifully a scouting lelievlet sails with an ePropulsion Spirit . This engine and boat seem made for each other ( Scouting Netherlands, are you paying attention?).
Because the opportunity arose, we decided to really push the ePropulsion Spirit to the limit by towing four boats weighing approximately 1000kg each. Unbelievable, but even this went far beyond expectations. Not fast, but very constant and without noise, vibration or anything.
During the Sailing Corso it became clear once again what a fantastic combination the ePropulsion Spirit makes with a lily pad. However, what far exceeded our expectations was the combination with the 100W solar panel . Because the Corso moves slowly, the motors could operate continuously at 100-200W. However, it was also ideal summer weather and the panels hung completely free in the sun. As a result, the net consumption was often less than 100W. All four days the engines were able to sail the entire Corso on one battery. We only used the spare batteries for the return journey in the evening/night.
For those who want to sail quietly and for a long time, the combination of an ePropulsion Spirit with a solar panel really the ultimate solution.
