Victron Orion XS DC-DC battery charger 12/12-50A

Victron Orion XS DC-DC battery charger 12/12-50A

For charging a service or leisure battery from the starter battery and alternator in motorhomes, vans, and boats (12/12-50). The charger compensates for the low voltage of a Euro 5/6 smart alternator and cable loss, and protects the starter battery. If it is still too low to start, the emergency charge function recharges it from the service battery. Also usable as a 12V power supply. Battery voltage and input and output voltage: For 12V systems: input voltage 9-17V, output voltage adjustable from 10 to 17V with a tolerance of maximum 0.25%. Charging between 12V and 24V is not possible with this version. The built-in engine detection activates the charger only when the alternator is supplying power; an external engine signal (>8V on the L-pin) can override this. Power 700W continuous up to 40°C at a typical charging voltage of 14V; at 12V this is 600W. Above 40°C, power decreases by 1.5% per °C. In case of insufficient air circulation, the charger reduces power sooner. Battery charger function: Adaptive 4-stage charging algorithm (bulk, absorption, float, storage) with eight pre-programmed battery settings and a freely programmable profile. Input and output current are independently adjustable from 1 to 50A in steps of 0.1A to prevent the alternator from becoming overloaded. Starter battery emergency charge (firmware v1.15): the charger temporarily reverses the charging direction and charges the starter battery for 15 minutes from the service battery, followed by a 5-minute rest period during which the engine can be started. Maximum charging current 25A, up to a maximum of 14.4V on the starter battery. Emergency charging is available as soon as the charger stops charging in advance due to engine detection or input voltage protection, even in remote-off mode. If the service battery voltage drops too low, the current decreases. Connectable with: An unlimited number of units can be connected in parallel for a higher charging current. In that case, start an emergency charge on all units or switch off the others first; otherwise, they will charge against each other. Via VE.Smart Networking, the charger receives voltage, temperature, and current from a SmartShunt, BMV, or Smart Battery Sense; synchronous charging is not supported. Composition: Suitable for lead-acid and lithium batteries via the pre-programmed settings or a custom charging profile. For lithium batteries, the charger switches off at low temperatures; the absorption time is fixed at 2 hours by default. Construction: IP65-compliant housing: dustproof and resistant to heavy rain. Cooling by natural convection, without a fan. Protected against overload, short circuit, and overheating (heat sink >90°C). Mounting: Connection via screw terminals up to 21.2mm² (4 AWG). External battery fuse 60-70A; cable minimum 16mm² up to 5m and 21.2mm² (4 AWG) for 5-10m. Mount with sufficient clearance around the housing. Communication: Configure, read out, and start emergency charging using the VictronConnect app (v6.43 or later) via Bluetooth on a smartphone or tablet. The VE.Direct port connects to a GX device for DVCC control and monitoring via the VRM Portal – Victron Energy (https://vrm.victronenergy.com/login), through which firmware updates can also be installed remotely. DVCC requires Orion XS firmware v1.03 and Venus OS v3.20 or later. Yes, from firmware v1.15 with VictronConnect v6.43: 15 minutes emergency charge, then 5 minutes rest to start the engine. It is not a continuous reverse charge. Can I connect multiple chargers in parallel for more charging current? Yes, an unlimited number of units can be connected in parallel. Start an emergency charge on all units simultaneously or switch off the others first, otherwise they will charge against each other. Does DVCC work if the charger charges a separate second battery? No. With DVCC in charger mode, the output must be on the main battery of the GX system. If the charger is charging another battery, switch off DVCC, disconnect the VE.Direct connection, or use power mode. Can multiple units be charged synchronously via VE.Smart Networking? No, synchronous charging is not supported. The charger does receive voltage, temperature, and current via the network; a Smart Battery Sense does not provide current measurement. Feel free to contact us for advice regarding cabling, fuses, the firmware update, or connection to a GX system. We are willing to go through the correct settings together, even after delivery.
