Victron Orion XS DC-DC battery charger 1224 1400W
For vehicles and boats where the starter and service batteries have different voltages, or where a single charger for both 12V and 24V installations is desired. Thanks to the buck-boost control, the charger charges from 12V to 24V, from 24V to 12V, or at a constant voltage. A depleted 12V or 24V starter battery can be recharged via the emergency charge function. Also usable as a DC power supply. Battery voltage and input and output voltage: For 12V and 24V systems: input voltage 9-35V, output voltage adjustable from 10 to 35V with a tolerance of up to 0.25%. The current always remains within the set value, even if the input voltage is higher than the output voltage. The built-in engine detection activates the charger only when the alternator is supplying power; an external engine signal (>8V on the L-pin) can override this. Output 1400W continuous up to 40°C at a typical charging voltage of 28V. The power is derived from voltage times current: at 14V this is 700W, because the current is limited to 50A. Above 40°C, the power decreases by 1.5% per °C. Battery charger function: Adaptive 4-stage charging algorithm (bulk, absorption, float, storage) with eight pre-programmed battery settings and a freely programmable profile. Input and output current are independently adjustable from 1 to 50A in steps of 0.1A, so that the alternator is not overloaded. Emergency charge starter battery (firmware v1.15): the charger temporarily reverses the charging direction and charges the starter battery for 15 minutes from the service battery, followed by a 5-minute rest period during which the engine can be started. Maximum charging current 25A, up to 14.4V for a 12V starter battery or 28.8V for a 24V starter battery. You set the starter battery voltage in advance via the product settings; otherwise, VictronConnect will prompt you for it during first use. This function is available as soon as the charger stops charging in advance due to engine detection or input voltage protection, even in remote-off mode. Connectable with: An unlimited number of units can be connected in parallel for a higher charging current. In that case, start an emergency charge on all units or switch off the others first, otherwise they will charge against each other. Via VE.Smart Networking, the charger receives voltage, temperature, and current from a SmartShunt, BMV, or Smart Battery Sense; synchronous charging is not supported. Composition: Suitable for lead-acid and lithium batteries via the pre-programmed settings or a custom charging profile. For lithium batteries, the charger switches off at low temperatures; the absorption time is fixed at 2 hours by default. Construction: IP65-compliant housing: dustproof and resistant to heavy rain. Cooling by natural convection, without a fan. Protected against overload, short circuit, and overheating (heatsink >90°C). Mounting: Connection via screw terminals up to 21.2mm² (4 AWG). External battery fuse 60-70A; cable minimum 16mm² up to 5m and 21.2mm² (4 AWG) for 5-10m. Mount with sufficient clearance around the housing. Communication: Setup, read out, and start emergency charging using the VictronConnect app (v6.43 or later) via Bluetooth on a smartphone or tablet. The VE.Direct port connects to a GX device for DVCC control and monitoring via the VRM Portal – Victron Energy (https://vrm.victronenergy.com/login), through which firmware updates can also be installed remotely. DVCC requires Orion XS firmware v1.03 and Venus OS v3.20 or later. Yes, from firmware v1.15 with VictronConnect v6.43: 15 minutes emergency charge, followed by a 5-minute rest period to start the engine. It is not a continuous reverse charge. Does emergency charge also work with a 24V starter battery? Yes. With a 24V starter battery, the charger charges up to a maximum of 28.8V. You set the starter battery voltage via the product settings or during first use. Can I connect multiple chargers in parallel for higher charging current? Yes, an unlimited number of units can be connected in parallel. Start an emergency charge on all units simultaneously or switch off the others first, otherwise they will charge against each other. Does DVCC work if the charger charges a separate second battery? No. With DVCC in charger mode, the output must be connected to the main battery of the GX system. If the charger is charging a different battery, disable DVCC, disconnect the VE.Direct connection, or use power mode. Feel free to contact us for advice regarding the voltage combination, cabling, firmware update, or pairing with a GX system.
