In early 2024, Robust-MT Marine Technology BV approached one morning by Leo, a local market gardener from the Westland region. He was seeking information about the possibilities of a reliable electric sloop for his family and grandchildren. After a personal consultation and a convincing test run with our own ZWS 500 demo boat, this resulted in the sale of our very first new-build sloop: a very spacious and stable Zuidwestersloep ZWS 595.Whereas these aluminium sloops are delivered very spartanly as standard, we have finished this vessel entirely custom-made and equipped it to be extremely functional, with an eye for comfort and ease of use.
Customer's wish
Powerful and quiet drive
Sufficient power to maneuver comfortably even with a full occupancy of 10 to 12 people.
High-quality comfort on board
The desire to transform the spartan aluminium hull into a luxury sloop, complete with automatic cooling, audio, and charging capabilities.
Smart power supply
A system where the refrigerator runs directly on shore power in the harbor to save battery capacity, and automatically switches to the onboard power while underway.
Adjustable battery capacity
An energy system that complements sporty boating, including towing the (grand)children in a funtube or tube behind the boat.
Solution by Robust-MT
Whereas a standard Zuidwestersloep is typically delivered with only an engine, battery, and controls, ZWS 595 been transformed into a high-end vessel in our workshop in Monster. We have expertly installed the following systems:
Drive & Control
A powerful ePropulsion Navy 6.0 Evo (6 kW, approx. 9.9 hp equivalent) outboard motor in the well. Instead of a standard surface mount, the motor is connected to a chic, built-in ePropulsion Evo side-mount remote control that is elegantly concealed in the dashboard.
Custom steering console
Located directly next to the throttle is the premium Garmin Fusion RA210 stereo system and the central start button for the battery bank, allowing the entire system to be activated with a single press of a button.
Onboard Grid & Inverter
Via a heavy-duty DC-to-DC converter, the 48V voltage from the drive batteries is efficiently converted into a stable 12V network. The stereo, refrigerator, functional 12V cigarette lighter socket, and USB slots for charging mobile devices, among other things, are connected to this network in a sheltered location on board.
Shore power & Smart cooling
The compressor refrigerator in the forward compartment is smartly connected to the shore power system. When the boat is moored at the dock, the cooling runs directly on shore power. As soon as the shore power is disconnected, the refrigerator switches automatically and seamlessly to the 12V onboard network.
The battery upgrade to 3x E100
The boat was initially delivered with a substantial ePropulsion E163 lithium battery. In practice, however, the family's boating style proved to be very sporty: with 12 people on board and children in inflatable tubes behind the boat, a lot of power is required for extended periods. To meet this high energy demand, we upgraded the system. The E163 battery was retained for our own demo boat, and Leo's ZWS 595 is equipped with a heavy-duty, parallel-connected battery bank consisting of no fewer than three ePropulsion E100 lithium batteries. This brings the total capacity to an impressive 30 kWh.
