Victron Autotransformer 120/240V-50A Applications The medium-sized version, with 50 A throughput current. For yachts, expedition vessels, and off-grid installations dealing with varying grid configurations where 32 A is insufficient, but 100 A is not necessary. The winding is identical to that of the 100 A version. Balancing split phase With a split-phase source such as a generator or two stacked inverters, the load on the two 120 V legs is rarely equal. As soon as one leg reaches its maximum, the power on the other leg remains unused. If you leave the source's neutral unused and form a new neutral with the autotransformer, the imbalance is absorbed and energy can be transferred from one leg to the other. In this way, the full available power of the source is released. Upgrading and Downgrading The device doubles 120 V to 240 V or halves 240 V to 120 V. This allows a single 120 V inverter to still provide a split-phase 120/240 V power supply for heavy consumers such as a submersible pump or air conditioning, and enables a split-phase generator to be fully utilized by a single-phase inverter/charger. Note: an autotransformer does not provide galvanic isolation. Ground Relay for MultiPlus and Quattro A ground relay is located inside the housing to establish the neutral-to-ground connection within the autotransformer itself. For a MultiPlus or Quattro, switch off the internal ground relay using the SW1 slide switch next to the ground relay terminal block, or for a MultiPlus-II via the settings, and connect the ground relay terminals of the inverter/charger to the ground terminals of the autotransformer. The control operates at 24 V, regardless of the system voltage of the inverter/charger. Protection The two-pole circuit breaker protects against overcurrent and overheating and simultaneously serves as an on/off switch. In the event of overheating, the fan runs and the red LED lights up; if the transformer becomes too hot, the breaker trips. Resetting is done manually by switching the breaker off and on again. Installation Mount the unit indoors or in a cabinet. Any mounting position is permitted, but vertical is optimal for heat dissipation and access to the terminal block. Allow 10 cm of clearance around the unit for ventilation. Connection is made to screw terminals up to 35 mm² (AWG 2); the terminal block functions as an input or output depending on the application.
