In storage mode, the trickle voltage is reduced to 13.2 V to minimize gassing and corrosion of the positive plates. Once a week, the voltage is raised again to absorption level to 'recharge' the battery. This prevents stratification of the electrolyte and sulfation, the main cause of premature battery failure. Protection The charger is protected against overheating and reverse polarity connection. The output current decreases if the temperature rises to 40 ºC, but the charger does not stop. The output relay protects against reverse polarity. Five LEDs for status and mode indication The charger always starts in STANDBY mode when connected to an AC power supply. When the AC power supply is connected, the STANDBY LED lights up. There is then no voltage on the output. After connecting to a battery (battery voltage must be higher than 8.5 V), three charging profiles can be selected using the MODE button.
