Victron Skylla-i 24/100 (1+1)

Victron Skylla-i 24/100 (1+1)

Aluminum housing with epoxy powder coating with a cover plate to protect against condensation and stainless steel mounting material to increase resistance to adverse environmental conditions: heat, moisture and salt air. The printed circuit boards are protected with acrylic lacquer for optimal corrosion resistance. The temperature sensors ensure that the power components always operate within certain limits, if necessary by automatically reducing the output current in extreme environmental conditions. In addition to a CAN bus (NMEA2000) interface, a rotary switch, DIP switches and potentiometers are available to specifically adapt the charging algorithm to batteries and their conditions of use. Please consult the manual for a complete overview of the options. Multiple chargers can be synchronized with the CAN bus interface. This is achieved by connecting the chargers to each other with RJ45 UTP cables. Consult the manual for more information. The correct charging amount for a lead-acid battery: variable absorption time When only light discharges occur, the absorption time is kept short to prevent overcharging of the battery. After a deep discharge, the absorption time is automatically increased to ensure that the battery is fully recharged. Preventing damage due to excessive gas formation: limited voltage rise If, in order to shorten the charging time, a high charging current is chosen in combination with a high absorption voltage, the Skylla-i prevents damage due to excessive gas formation by automatically limiting the rate of rise of the voltage when the gas pressure has been reached. The Storage function is activated when the battery is not discharged for 24 hours. In that case, the driving voltage is reduced to 2.2V/cell (26.4V for 24V battery) to minimize gas formation and corrosion of the positive plates. Once a week the voltage is increased again to absorption level to 'refresh' the battery. This prevents electrolyte stratification and sulphation, a major cause of early battery failure. Each Skylla-i is equipped with a battery temperature sensor. When connected, the charging voltage automatically decreases as the battery temperature increases. This feature is particularly recommended for sealed lead-acid batteries and/or when significant battery temperature fluctuations are expected. To compensate for voltage loss due to cable resistance, the Skylla-i is equipped with a voltage detection device so that the battery always receives the correct charging voltage. It is possible to provide simple on-off control of the charger by connecting a relay or an open collector optical coupler output from a Li-ION BMS to the charger's remote control port. On the other hand, complete control of the voltage and current is possible by connecting to the galvanically isolated CAN bus port.

Electric propulsion systems in pleasure boating

Advantages of electric motors? In summary: Clean, quiet, low-maintenance, reliable, practical, super strong and very predictable and controllable range. Knowing more? be sure to read our blog post about electric sailing and then our practical experiences with these beautiful products.

Electric motors can be divided into the following categories:

Inboard engines:

These are engines that are built into the boat to replace, for example, an existing marine diesel or to drive a sloop with a built-in engine. Propulsion takes place, for example, via a propeller shaft or sail drive and the engine is usually placed along the length of the boat.

Outboard engines:

These are engines that are, for example, attached to the rear (transom) of the boat. These motors are therefore more flexible because they are easily accessible and removable. When there is a voltage of 24 volts or higher, we call it an outboard motor.

Whisper engines:

Whisper motors are the lighter brother of the outboard motor because of a voltage below 24 volts. They are often powered by an external 12V battery.

Pods:

These engines are therefore mounted under the boat . This therefore has the great advantage that the engine does not take up any space in the boat and is not visible on the outside of the boat.

Watercraft:

Our water scooter is an electrically powered swimming board. When used the other way around, it is also a double water cannon. This is not only a fun toy for small children, but also a very useful tool for less mobile swimmers.

SUP engine:

Stand up paddle boarding (SUP) is becoming increasingly popular, but is also a strenuous sport. However, by equipping the SUP with an auxiliary motor, covering large distances becomes a lot easier. Be sure to read our test of the ePropulsion Vaquita SUP motor .

Canoe or kayak motor:

Just like for the SUP, we also supply supporting motors for kayak and canoe.
