Victron Smart BMS 12/200

Victron Smart BMS 12/200 The Victron Smart BMS 12/200 lithium alternator overload protection. The BMS connects to 12.8V Victron LiFePO4 (LFP) batteries. Up to 5 batteries can be connected in parallel. Can be used as a system on/off switch. Alternator and battery protection The input current is electronically limited to approximately 90% of the fuse rating. A 100 A fuse, for example, will therefore limit the input current to approximately 90 A. Choosing the correct fuse will: a. Protect the LFP battery against excessive charging current (important with low capacity LFP batteries). b. Protect the alternator against overload with a high capacity LFP battery bank (most 12 V alternators will overheat and fail if they run at maximum output voltage for more than 5 minutes). Starter Battery Protection This function is similar to that of a Cyrix Battery Combiner or Argo FET Battery Disconnect Switch. Current can only flow to the LFP battery when the input voltage (= voltage on the starter battery) exceeds 13 V. Furthermore, current cannot flow back from the LFP battery to the starter battery, preventing potential damage to the LFP battery due to excessive discharge. Li-ion Battery Protection Excessive input current and current surges are regulated downwards to a safe level. The Smart BMS stops charging in the event of cell overvoltage or excessive temperature. It has three outputs, similar to the SmallBMS: > Charge Disconnect Output Voltage: The Load Output is normally high and becomes floating in the event of imminent cell undervoltage (standard 2.8 V / cell, adjustable on the battery between 2.6 V and 2.8 V per cell). Maximum current: 10 mA. The Load Output can be used to control the external on/off of a Battery Protect, inverter, DC-DC converter, or other loads. > Pre-Alarm Output Voltage: The pre-alarm output can be used as a warning when the battery voltage is low and will switch off shortly before load output disconnection is disabled due to cell undervoltage. The pre-alarm output can be used to drive a relay, LED, or buzzer. It can be configured as a continuous or periodic signal. The pre-alarm output is normally floating and turns high upon imminent cell undervoltage (standard 3.1 V/cell, adjustable on the battery between 2.85 V and 3.15 V per cell). Maximum current: 1 A (not short-circuit protected). The minimum delay between the pre-alarm and load disconnection is 30 seconds. > Charge Disconnect Output Voltage: The Charge Disconnect output is normally high and turns floating upon imminent cell overvoltage or overtemperature. Maximum current: 10 mA. The charge disconnect output is not suitable for powering an inductive load such as a relay coil. The Charge Disconnect Output can be used to control: the external on/off of a charger, a Cyrix Li-Charging Relay, or a Cyrix Li-Ct Battery Combiner. (Note: in certain cases, an interface cable will be required; please refer to the manual). Load/Battery Charger Output-Input (SYSTEM+ Power Port) This power port can be used to charge or discharge the LFP battery (i.e., via a battery charger, an inverter, or an inverter/battery charger) with a maximum continuous current of 200 A in both directions. It can also be used as a load output so that DC loads can be connected directly to this port. The port is protected against short circuits with a peak discharge current of 400 A. The Smart BMS ensures that battery discharge will be stopped in the event of impending cell undervoltage. The Smart BMS will enable charging via this port, but no internal charging algorithm can be applied. External On/Off Input The external on/off input controls charging via the alternator. When switched off, charging via the alternator is disabled while the BMS functionality remains active, allowing loads and chargers to continue operating regardless of the status of the external input. When the “system on/off switch” is enabled via VictronConnect, the BMS functionality will also be disabled. It consists of two terminals: External L and External H. An external on/off switch or relay can be connected between H and L. Alternatively, terminal H can be switched to battery positive or terminal L can be switched to battery negative. Ignition protected No relays but MOSFET switches, and therefore no sparks. Bluetooth Configuration is possible via Bluetooth.
